I have to look good in a fitted dress for a party in 2 days. Is there anything I can do to tighten my stomach in such a short period of time?

It's not really possible to lose a significant amount of weight or tighten your tummy in 2 days ... but there are few tricks that can make it look smaller! To get rid of bloat or water weight, limit your sodium and carb intake for the next 2 days. Breakfast could be egg whites or a Greek yogurt, lunch a salad with grilled chicken and a little dressing, afternoon snack a string cheese or 15 almonds and dinner could be 6 oz of fish, chicken or lean meat and a large portion of veggies. Then a fruit for an after dinner snack. You may want to avoid gassy veggies temporarily ... and avoid all carbonated beverages as they can cause bloating. This plan can help your tummy look a little flatter.

There are exercises you can do to tighten the tummy, but performing an intense abdominal workout two days before a party is not the best plan. If you have a big event coming up, first be aware of and vigilant with the foods you are consuming. Eat mainly protein (lean meat, chicken, low-fat dairy, eggs, etc.), fresh vegetables and fruit, and keep carbohydrates to a minimum. Make sure your carbohydrates are all 100 percent whole grain, and keep the portion sizes small.

It also helps to drink water as much as possible and avoid any packaged foods and table salt to keep you looking your best for the party. You can also increase your cardio workouts, performing at least thirty minutes on most days if the event is in a week. Cardio will burn calories and flush water weight.

Abdominal exercises such as weighted crunches, plank holds, reverse crunches and abdominal twists will help to tighten the area and, in general, should be performed up to three times a week on non-consecutive days.You should never do intense ab exercises two days in a row. (So just do one day of intense ab exercises, since your party is only two days away). Your abdominal muscles are like any other muscle in your body, and they need adequate time to rest. When your muscles rest, they have the chance to form and give you that lean, toned appearance.

Before a fitting or event here are my suggestions:
  • Cut back on the sodium which can make you retain water weight. This means salty snack foods as well as many foods you eat out! 
  • Stick to lean protein at each meal with your fruits and veggies. I love greek yogurt, tuna and eggs. 
  • Skip fizzy drinks, and beans (if you're not used to them since they can cause gas).

Anecdotally, I've found that drinking coffee and eating high fiber foods like Fiber One cereal helps me not be bloated in the days leading up to an important event.

If you're not used to a high fiber intake, eating lots of things like Fiber One can totally cause havoc on your digestive system (gas, bloating, and more). Increase your fiber intake slowly and always drink lots of water!
