Congratulations for wanting to find a healthy weight for you! I am a firm believer that the body will release weight at the rate that is right for it if given the tools it needs to do so:
  • exercise (both cardiovascular exercise and strength training)
  • a diet based on whole foods (lots of vegetables, lean protein, some fruit and healthy fats. When trying to lose weight, you can limit healthy fats but do not remove them entirely)
  • stress management
  • self care, time to rest and engage in activities that fulfill you
  • lots of water
There is a saying that to get different results you need to do what you've never done. The same is true for weight loss. When you give your body more of what's good for it, it will respond in a positive way.

Best wishes!

Hello! I'm so glad that you asked, you've already taken the first step to losing weight. You've got the motivation, now you just need the tools. I suggest starting with the steps below:
  • Don't skip meals - eat at least 3 meals a day with a health snack (fruit, yogurt, vegetables) if you're feeling hungry. When you skip meals, most people tend to overeat at their next meal.
  • Lose the liquid calories (soda, juice, sports drinks, alcohol, sugary coffee drinks). You'll be amazed at how the pounds will start flying off when you switch to drinking mostly water.
  • Use portion control. In general, for lunch and dinner, try and make 1/2 of your plate vegetables, with 1/4 of the plate for lean protein (chicken, turkey or fish) and the remaining 1/4 starch (rice, pasta, potatoes, corn, peas, dinner roll, etc.) By exercising portion control, you can help cut back the excess calories.
  • Exercise! Starting to incorporate exercise into your daily schedule will help burn extra calories but also make you more toned.
What's really important to remember is that changing your lifestyle is the best way to lose weight. Making these small changes will lead to a healthier you. A lot of the fad diets out there will make you lose weight FAST, but it's mostly water-weight and the weight loss if very difficult to maintain. When you change your lifestyle, you won't feel like you're constantly on a "diet" and the weight loss that occurs will be easier to maintain in the long run.

Best of luck to you, don't be shy about posting more questions. We're here to help and support you in your decision to be the best, healthiest version of yourself!
